You take it to a framer and have it mat\u00adted and framed. The mat and the frame will cost you about a dozen times what the print cost. Or you can buy a ready-made frame, and frame your\u00adself. That will cost you about six or sev\u00aden times what the print&nbsp;cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So there you are. You have a nice pho\u00adto framed to hang on the wall. Boooriiing!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019re liv\u00ading in a new gold\u00aden age of pho\u00adtog\u00adra\u00adphy. Dig\u00adi\u00adtal tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy has accel\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded the use of pho\u00adtos in com\u00admerce, art, edu\u00adca\u00adtion, and every\u00adday fun. Images are every\u00adwhere, both print\u00aded and in dig\u00adi\u00adtal formats\u2014and they light up our&nbsp;life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Why not leave the old framed pho\u00adto behind and try some\u00adthing new? Pho\u00adtos can now be print\u00aded on met\u00adal, acrylic, fab\u00adric, can\u00advas, porce\u00adlain, and oth\u00ader mate\u00adri\u00adals. An abun\u00addance of mate\u00adri\u00adals leads to an abun\u00addance of new uses. Let\u2019s take a look at one of these new tech\u00adniques that I\u2019ve tried, and I will leave you to inves\u00adti\u00adgate the others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I\u2019ve found pho\u00adto prints on met\u00adal to be ter\u00adrif\u00adic and inex\u00adpen\u00adsive dis\u00adplays. They are typ\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly print\u00aded on a sheet of rigid aluminum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Met\u00adal prints look ter\u00adrif\u00adic on the wall. They should\u00adn\u2019t, but they do. Why do&nbsp;they?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">They stand out due to the stand-off mount\u00ading in back. The <span class=\"caps\">3D<\/span> effect seems to give them a sub\u00adtle and nat\u00adur\u00adal visu\u00adal bor\u00adder (frame substitute).<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The edges are straight and crisp. Mul\u00adti\u00adple shapes are avail\u00adable. The met\u00adal is absolute\u00adly flat. Met\u00adal prints seem to be almost part of the&nbsp;wall.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The col\u00adors real\u00adly pop\u2014better than on pho\u00adto&nbsp;paper.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The images real\u00adly pop. You need to have a good sharp pho\u00adto, of course.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">They seem to be a nat\u00adur\u00adal part of the room. Pho\u00adtos with frames, how\u00adev\u00ader, are real\u00adly for\u00adeign objects.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">There\u2019s no such thing as a bad frame match-up (to the print) since there is no&nbsp;frame.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">They don\u2019t nec\u00ades\u00adsar\u00adi\u00adly look out of place with any decor with the excep\u00adtion of framed pho\u00adtos. Framed and unframed pho\u00adtos don\u2019t mix&nbsp;well.<\/li>\n<li>You can use soft\u00adware to put a frame around your pho\u00adto, and such a frame will be print\u00aded on the met\u00adal. I\u2019ve seen this used in gal\u00adleries, and it can be attrac\u00adtive if you like frames.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Met\u00adal prints: they look great and they\u2019re rea\u00adson\u00adably inex\u00adpen\u00adsive. What more could you ask for? Go online and arrange to have sev\u00ader\u00adal of your pho\u00adtos print\u00aded on alu\u00adminum. Look for coupons online that give you an intro\u00adduc\u00adto\u00adry&nbsp;price.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Below are two photofin\u00adish\u00aders you might try that pro\u00adduce good alu\u00adminum prints. Hang them on the wall with\u00adout frames. Give them some prop\u00ader dif\u00adfused light\u00ading. Assum\u00ading they are good sharp pho\u00adtos, they will look like a mil\u00adlion dollars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Don\u2019t mix met\u00adal prints with framed prints. The framed prints come from a bygone tra\u00addi\u00adtion. The met\u00adal prints are from a tra\u00addi\u00adtion of the future. They don\u2019t mix well in the same&nbsp;room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a prac\u00adti\u00adcal mat\u00adter, met\u00adal prints are less trou\u00adble. Framed prints are heavy and clunky, and you have to wor\u00adry about the glass break\u00ading. Met\u00adal (alu\u00adminum) prints are lighter and less frag\u00adile. The only thing you have to wor\u00adry about is bend\u00ading them, and they don\u2019t bend easily.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let this be the start of your exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion with new ways to dis\u00adplay your photos.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Joseph T.
